Discover Teresa's Mexican Restaurant Mendota Heights

If you’re driving along 762 N Plaza Dr, Mendota Heights, MN 55120, United States, it’s easy to miss how much flavor is tucked inside Teresa's Mexican Restaurant Mendota Heights. From the outside, it looks like a comfortable neighborhood diner. Step in, though, and the aroma of sizzling fajitas and fresh tortillas tells you immediately that this place takes its Mexican food seriously.

The first time I visited, it was a chilly Minnesota evening, and the dining room felt like a warm escape. The staff greeted us with genuine smiles, and within minutes, a basket of warm chips and house-made salsa landed on our table. The salsa had a bright tomato base with just enough heat to wake up your palate without overwhelming it. That balance-bold but not reckless-pretty much sums up the entire menu.

Speaking of the menu, it’s extensive without being confusing. You’ll find classics like enchiladas, tacos, burritos, and tamales, but also crowd favorites like sizzling steak fajitas and shrimp quesadillas. I’ve tried their carne asada tacos on more than one occasion, and the meat was consistently tender, seasoned with a careful mix of cumin, garlic, and citrus. According to the National Restaurant Association, diners increasingly value authentic flavors and fresh ingredients when choosing where to eat, and that’s exactly what stands out here: authenticity without pretense.

One standout dish for me was the molcajete, a traditional Mexican stone bowl filled with grilled meats, nopales, cheese, and spicy sauce. It arrived bubbling hot, served the traditional way, and the presentation alone made nearby tables turn their heads. The preparation method-slow grilling the proteins and finishing them in a heated stone vessel-locks in moisture and intensifies flavor. It’s a small detail, but it reflects culinary expertise rooted in tradition rather than shortcuts.

Teresa’s also understands that not everyone craves heavy fare. Their menu includes lighter options like grilled chicken salads and vegetarian burritos packed with sautéed peppers, onions, and black beans. The portions are generous, yet the ingredients taste fresh and thoughtfully prepared. In my experience reviewing local restaurants across Minnesota, consistency is often where places slip. However, on repeat visits here, the rice remained fluffy, the refried beans creamy, and the tortillas soft and warm-small indicators of a kitchen that follows reliable processes.

Customer reviews across platforms frequently mention the friendly service and reasonable pricing. That matches what I’ve seen firsthand. Families gather here for weeknight dinners, coworkers meet for lunch specials, and couples settle into booths for margaritas after work. The margaritas, by the way, deserve a mention. Made with quality tequila and fresh lime juice, they strike the right balance between tart and sweet. The American Heart Association has highlighted the importance of moderation in alcohol consumption, and while this isn’t a health spot, it’s reassuring that drinks are crafted carefully rather than overpoured.

The location itself is convenient, especially for those living or working near Mendota Heights and neighboring communities like Eagan and West St. Paul. Parking is easy, and the restaurant’s layout accommodates both small groups and larger gatherings. I once attended a birthday dinner here with a party of twelve, and the staff handled the group smoothly-separate checks, quick refills, and steady pacing from appetizers to dessert.

What truly sets this restaurant apart is its ability to blend a casual diner atmosphere with genuine Mexican culinary roots. You’re not just ordering tacos; you’re tasting recipes that feel time-tested. While I don’t have direct access to their sourcing details, the freshness of the produce and meats suggests strong supplier relationships and careful ingredient selection.

In a region where dining options range from fast-food chains to upscale eateries, Teresa’s holds its own by focusing on flavor, hospitality, and reliability. The menu is approachable, the service attentive, and the experience consistently satisfying. Whether you’re craving a hearty burrito, a plate of enchiladas drenched in rich red sauce, or simply a relaxed dinner with friends, this Mendota Heights staple delivers exactly what you hope for-real food, real warmth, and a meal that keeps you planning your next visit before you’ve even paid the check.

  • Visited with my co-workers. I'm allergic to shellfish, so my options were a little limited. I got their steak street Tacos with rice - the meat was cut up in larger pieces, but pretty tender. Service was a little slow, but the restaurant was packed. Everyone got their food at the same time. I recommend if you're in the area!

  • We got a big group and our waitress was very patients and happy as she checks up on our table making sure our food tastes good and we’re satisfied! The food was brought out hot and it tasted delicious! The chips are warm and crispy with that delicious salsa. I ordered pina colada and it could be better. I didn’t like the pink syrup and I can only tasted crush sweet ice.

  • Teresa's in Mendota Heights is one of the best! The food is delicious, arrives quickly, and is very authentic. The portions are generous. There will be leftovers to take with. The service is top notch as well. Our server was very pleasant, patient with all of our little substitutions/requests, and attentive to our needs. Never had to ask for a refill as it was there just before we needed it. The ambience is wonderful. Tables are not stacked on top of one another so you have space to breathe. Ample parking. Simply put, great food with great service in a great setting!
